I’m Preston Pratt. I grew up on the central plains of Texas. I met my wife, Tracie, at Bryson High School, where we both graduated. We have three children together – two sons and a daughter.
I am a veteran of the US Navy, having served 6 years in the navy nuclear propulsion program as a Machinist’s Mate. I graduated from Texas A&M University with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and a Master of Science in Nuclear Engineering, with a concentration in computational fluid dynamics.
I spent approximately 20 years in the electric utility business, mostly in nuclear generation. During this time, I learned a lot about risk, electrical distribution systems, electronic equipment, cooling systems, and diesel generators, but I learned even more about people, how to be a better teammate, and how to break orgaizational problems down into workstreams.
I am goal-oriented and enjoy meeting new people. I would describe myself as a life-long learner. I love reading and new experiences. I am constantly thinking about how emerging trends extrapolate into the future.
My work in the electric utility business led me to work in data centers, which live in a multilayer network, with electricity as the base layer. I am fascinated by the mutual influence the electrical layer and network layer have on each other, and the collective impact they are having on society as value accretes to the network layer. It is a transformational trend that will continue well into the future.
